Congratulations to our colleagues at Safe Home Ireland on the launch of their 2023-2028 Strategic Plan! We look forward to continuing to partner with Safe Home to provide the best possible supports to Irish citizens returning to Ireland.

In conjunction with the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology at the Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS) at the University of Galway, Safe Home Ireland hosted a seminar titled ‘Social Inclusion in Action for Returning Irish: Priorities and Challenges’ to mark the plan’s launch on Wednesday, 27 March.

As part of the seminar, Crosscare Irish Diaspora Support Project’s Policy & Outreach Officer Niall Foster was honoured to contribute to a rich panel discussion on social inclusion in action for both Irish abroad and returning emigrants. Joined in conversation by Orla Dick (Irish Council for Prisoners Overseas – ICPO), Michael Palmese (Citizens Information – Returning to Ireland portal), Colin Bell (Director, Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust), and moderated by Lochlann Scott (CEO, Helplink Mental Health), the panel examined various barriers to social inclusion for Ireland’s diverse diaspora and proposed social policy solutions grounded in practical experience.

Policy & Outreach Officer Niall Foster speaks on panel at Safe Home Ireland Strategic Plan Launch.

The seminar also featured an insightful panel on psycho-social supports for the Irish diaspora and a keynote address from Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien, TD.
