Important update for anyone returning to Ireland with a spouse or de facto partner who is registering for first-time immigration permission.
The process for first-time registration of Irish Immigration Residence Permission has changed from 13 January 2025, following the announcement about the transfer of responsibility for Irish immigration residence permission for all remaining counties to Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) of the Department of Justice.
This means that when registering for immigration permission for the first-time, your non-Irish spouse or de facto partner will now need to set up a personal Digital Contact Centre account, then make an appointment through this with the Registration Office, 13-14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 for first-time immigration registration. This process is the same wherever you live in the Republic of Ireland.
If your spouse or partner already has a first-time registration appointment scheduled for before 31 January 2024 with the relevant Garda registration office outside of Dublin, they can still attend this as scheduled. Alternatively, they can opt to cancel this and instead book an appointment with the Registration Office in Dublin by creating an account on the Digital Contact Centre as detailed above.
