As we get to work in 2024, Crosscare Irish Diaspora Support Project is thrilled to present our inaugural year in review. In our first full year of operation as a dedicated, we have had the privilege of providing support, fostering connections, and building bridges within the diaspora community.

2023 by the Numbers 📊

From individuals supported to communities strengthened, our 2023 statistics encapsulate the essence of our mission to support Irish citizens moving/living abroad or returning to Ireland, especially marginalised and vulnerable members of the diverse global community. At a glance:

  • People Supported: 946
  • Trainings and Information Sessions Delivered: 12
  • Global Irish Partnerships: 117

In 2023, we worked with Irish citizens in over 51 countries. Top locations of our clients were as follows:

  • Top Emigration Destinations: Australia, Canada, Europe, United Kingdom, United States
  • Top Return Origin Countries: United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Palestine, Libya

While a mere snapshot of our global client base, these figures align with the CSO population estimates released this past autumn.

A Year of Firsts

In 2023, we marked not only the passing of months but a series of ‘firsts’ that shaped the foundation of our project:

  • First Full Year of Operation: This milestone signifies a year of learning, growing, and adapting to the evolving needs of the Irish diaspora since our establishment as a bespoke service in 2022
  • New Website: We launched diasporasupport.ie in September to better meet the needs of global Irish everywhere
  • Policy Initiatives: Read more about our research and social policy work here

Our sincere gratitude to our funders and partners – this work would not be possible without their invaluable support.
